IMU, A Central University under the Ministry of Shipping, was established by Act 22 of 2008, to facilitate and promote Maritime Studies and Research and to achieve excellence in areas of Marine Science and Technology, marine environment and other related fields and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto, to promote advanced knowledge by providing institutional and research facilities, to take measures for promoting innovations in teaching-learning process, etc.

 

Jurisdiction:

The jurisdiction of the University shall extend to the whole of India.

Establishment:

The headquarters of the University is at Chennai with its campuses at Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Vishakhapatnam, Cochin and Kandla.
